Tenerife: Pre-travel jitters

First proper family holiday with the Rascal starts tomorrow. Looks like we’ll be bringing the snuffles with us too, dammit!  Amidst all the packing chaos today was a cantankerous little boy who refused to take his naps. As soon as he finally crashed around teatime, the neighbourhood kids conspired to make enough noise to wake him and set the dog off barking repeatedly. By the time any resemblance of peace descended on the house, the snuffles were in full effect and now there’s no prospect of the little man going happily to his cot tonight. I can look forward to much disturbed sleep and crying as we co-sleep on the sofa bed once more. Snail-trails of snot are being smeared everywhere as a half-asleep the Rascal wriggles and contorts his body into strange positions he appears to think will help him drift off to sleep.  The bags remain half-packed, the washing half-dried, the house half-clean at best. Guaranteed to be absolute pandemonium in the morning as we race to get up, ready, and out the door on time with even less sleep than usual and a snotty infant. Still not quite sure how to cram into one suitcase and two pieces of cabin luggage the bare essentials to last one infant and two adults for a whole week. To date we’ve managed to fill the entire car every time we’ve attempted a mere weekend trip. Did I mention we’re flying Ryanair? 4 hour flight? Can’t wait to experience that with a sick infant…
